Bumstead grew up in Ontario, Canada and spent his youth playing sports before bodybuilding became his main competitive focus. He entered bodybuilding competition in the mid-2010s and earned professional status while still in his early twenties. His early development was strongly influenced by Classic Physique aesthetics and by coach and bodybuilder Iain Valliere, who encouraged him to compete.

His public image is strongly tied to Classic Physique training: heavy compound movements, controlled hypertrophy work and a constant emphasis on symmetry rather than size alone. Chest, back, shoulders and legs are trained to create the V-taper and balanced proportions that define the division.
